Tartan is a patterned cloth consisting of crisscrossing, horizontal and vertical bands in multiple colours. Tartans originated in woven wool, but now they are made in many other materials.

The Royal Stewart or Stuart tartan is the most well known tartan.

It was the personal tartan of Queen Elizabeth II.

Traditionally, this tartan would not be worn without the express permission of the Queen. However, it has now become a universal tartan, which can be worn by anyone who doesn't have their own clan tartan.

Polyviscose is a mixture of polyester and viscose making it a durable and versatile fabric.
